24 August 2018 – All through
We’re up and running! The start of the year is always an exciting time! Over the past couple of weeks we have been welcoming new pupils across the school, including new nursery, primary and secondary pupils. It’s been a real pleasure to see them all resplendent in their new uniforms. As always, thanks so much for supporting our uniform. And please also remember to put your child’s name on everything! We’d love to reduce our lost property and we will return anything found if we can see a name on belongings.
For new parents of St John’s RC Academy, please don’t forget to have a look at our School Brochure for more information on our school.
Over the summer, pupils have been participating in a number of activities led, organised or facilitated by the school. This has included Career Ready internships and a P7/S1 summer school which had a focus on numeracy and outdoor learning. Many thanks to the staff and young people who made this such a success.
Our senior pupils received their SQA results during the holidays too and some of them featured in a Courier article celebrating their successes. Once again there were some record-breaking results with our S4 doing exceptionally well with more pupils achieving 5 National 5 awards than ever before. Congratulations to them and to all our pupils. I will publish more about our results in our upcoming Standards and Quality Report.
At the start of the year, we have been sharing our expectations with the children and young people. This term’s focus is on the school value of fairness. We are also busy working on a new project to open up the library for school use on Mondays when it is normally closed. We will be introducing a ‘Learning Hub’ after school for all our children and young people, and hope to involve parents too. Our P1 parents shared a literacy and numeracy learning morning today, and there are many other opportunities for parents to come along and be involved in the school. Please come along and join in – and I know the Parent Council would love to see you too!
As always, drop off and pick up are causing us some issues in and around the campus. We have reduced the amount of external meetings which take place in the school and they now begin and end meetings at quieter times. However issues remain with some adults parking in the turning circle or blocking the car parks. I ask you to please show due consideration for others and to remember that the safety of all our children is paramount. This includes rainy days! Car users should not come into the turning circle at all unless they are blue badge holders. Blue badge holders should use the designated disabled bays. Other users should leave these available for blue badge holders only. Thank you in advance for your help and consideration.
Finally, I want to offer my thanks to you for your support in getting the year off to a great start. The children and young people are settling in very well and I know that this does not happen by accident. As a parent too, I appreciate how important you are in helping and supporting your child every day to make the most of their learning.
