Awards Ceremonies 2017

On the 20th and 21st of June, St John’s RC Academy celebrated our junior and senior award ceremonies, hosted by Depute Headteacher, Mr Hugh McAninch. This year, we were honoured to welcome our guest and keynote speaker Jackie Brierton, who was awarded an MBE award by the Queen for ‘services to enterprise’. Jackie spoke to us about her life, education and occupation. She attended St John’s Primary School in Perth and then her paths lead her to Dundee, to Lawside Academy; after that she graduated from Edinburgh University in 1977. She started off her working career by purchasing a small retail business which through the years lead to her working as an Enterprise Manager for GrowBiz- an award-winning community based enterprise support organisation in rural Perthshire.

Our head teacher, Seán Hagney, delivered a speech highlighting how proud he was of everyone receiving their awards. Mr Hagney also explained how happy he was of the work by last year’s Senior Leadership Team and how he is looking forward to what next year’s team of pupils can achieve for our school.

Several pupils received special awards, they included: Katherine Gray who received the Iona Trophy; Dio Andre C Paderog who received the John B McLaren Award; the Perth and Kinross Dux Medal was presented to Iona Lang; the Evans award went to Katherine Gray and finally the Tom Kane award was presented to Michael Rimmer.

The evening had many highlights, such as solo performances from Robert McCall and Robert Young, both s6 pupils. There were also performances by the school orchestra and for the finale we were fortunate to experience a performance on the bagpipes by an outgoing pupil Chloe Donaldson and s2 pupil, Jack Liddell. Another highlight was the touching speeches of the outgoing Head Boy, Adam Chudzinski, and Head Girl, Katie Henderson. They spoke about their six year at our school and recalled some memories that will stay deep in their hearts.

The uplifting evening left everyone feeling motivated, inspired and successful. All of the pupils felt privileged to be part of the successful annual event celebrating achievements that we should feel proud of. We would like to thank all of the staff, parents and pupils who made this a night to remember.
