07 October 2016 – Focus on Nursery and Primary

Dear Parents and Carers

As Term 1 comes to a close we reflect on the busy start to Session 2016-2017! All of our new Nursery, Primary 1, pupils across the school and staff have settled in and are now well established with our routines.

Primary 7 have had a great start to their transition work in Dalguise, working with Our Lady’s Primary School and St Stephen’s Primary School and shaping up to be an excellent S1 next session.

We continue to develop our relationships with our local parishes with the dedication of Fr Bogdan, Mgr Martin and Mgr Henry. This term we’ve had classes across the school attending masses, visiting the Parish House and Parish Priests visiting the classes.

Our Extra Curricular activities are up and running and more details can be found here. If you have a particular skill or interest and would like to run a lunchtime or afterschool club within the primary, please contact a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) via the school office.

Our Soft Starts have continued this session and it is a great opportunity for parents to engage with their child on their learning in school. Dates for this academic session are available here.

Term 2 begins on Monday 24 October at 9.00am.

During the first week back:

  • Nursery – Primary 4 pupils will have a visit from the Fluoride Varnishing Dental Nurses on Thursday 27 & Friday 28 October
  • On Friday 28 October, children can come to school dressed in Halloween costumes and will take part in a variety of activities throughout the day. A reminder for children to wear practical costumes and leave any hand held accessories at home.
  • Primary 6 & 7 will begin their Rugby Taster sessions with Perthshire Rugby on a Friday morning in preparation for the Festival on 21 November. Children should bring a tracksuit and trainers as this will take place outside.

Don’t forget our whole school newsletter will be published on the website – please do have a look.  Please also note that our nursery has its own Twitter account – @stjohnsnursery_  The school account is @st_johnsacademy

I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your children.

With every good wish,

Seán P Hagney
