13 December 2019 – All Through

Dear Parents/Carers,

I just wanted to write a short message to you as we enter the last week of term. The newsletter for Term 2 will be out soon and I have also included a message there. Nevertheless I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your ongoing support for your school. Most recently this was shown in the remarkable participation of parents and families at our primary nativity and Christmas Show and the P7 Fair. The children of P2 who led our nativity, and the children from across the school, were absolutely brilliant, and this was aided in no small part by the full and appreciative audiences which you provided.

£576 was raised from the P7 Fair and this goes to SCIAF, while the ticket sales and raffle go to school funds. Over £2500 was raised by you – a huge thank you! I want you to know that we will be spending the money raised on an outdoor classroom for the primary playground. This will be a fantastic, versatile new resource, and it is something the primary children have voted for through participatory budgeting. We still have some money to raise, but we’ll get there!

As we approach Christmas, I want to invite you to our Advent Service which takes place on Wednesday, 18 December at 6pm in St John’s Catholic Church, Melville Street, Perth. This will be led by Canon Steven Mulholland and the young people of the primary and secondary school. Please come along and join us if you can. There is nothing quite like singing carols in a packed church on a cold night to get you ready for Christmas!

On our website there is information on a Perth and Kinross consultation which, if approved, will change the way P7s are admitted into S1. You can have your say at: https://www.pkc.gov.uk/article/21459/Proposals-and-Consultation-to-vary-the-Perth-and-Kinross-Council-School-Admission-Policy

Finally – I can’t resist mentioning uniform! If Santa can sort some uniform issues out, then this will make for a happy new year! In particular, I would really like to see more S4-6 pupils wearing their blazers in school, and more having black outdoor jackets. We have recently refreshed the policy and taken on board advice regarding some health and safety issues. The uniform leaflet is available here. The uniform is generally really good here because of your support and your children’s commitment to being ready for learning and being an active part of St John’s Academy. Thanks for all you do to make this happen.

I wish you and your family a happy and holy Christmas and a wonderful 2020.
