26 August 2016 – Focus on Nursery/Primary
Dear Parents and Carers
A fortnight has passed so quickly! Our pupils throughout the school have got off to a great start, and are very much looking their part in their smart uniforms. Our nursery pupils are also settling very quickly – don’t forget that purple polo tops are optional but encouraged. As well as welcoming all our new pupils and helping them to settle in, we also had a special morning with our new Primary 1 parents’ who attended a information session on literacy and numeracy, and then had lunch with their children in the Street. There was a great turnout – thanks to all who came along.
Parents/Carers should have received a copy of your child’s Learning Tree for the coming term. A copy is available at https://www.st-johnsacademy.org.uk/primary-learning-trees-term-1-2016-2017/. These will give you information about your child’s learning and your support to consolidate learning at home would be much appreciated.
Please remember that our Soft Starts https://www.st-johnsacademy.org.uk/soft-starts-2016/ started this morning and take place throughout the year. There is an opportunity, following a visit to your child’s class, to meet with members of the Senior Leadership Team from 9.30-10.00am in our Noisy/Quiet Room.
Wider achievement opportunities are available this term and details are on our website https://www.st-johnsacademy.org.uk/extra-curricular-opportunities/ If you have an special interest in arts, sports, drama etc. and have an hour to spare and would like to run a wider achievement opportunity please contact Mr Bald via the school office. We are currently organising lunchtime clubs for our P1-3 pupils.
Our P7 pupils are preparing for their trip to Dalguise and a Parents’ Information Evening will be held on 7 September at 7.30pm in the Assembly Hall to give final details regarding the trip. Parents’ and children are welcome to attend.
Can I please remind parent and carers to stay well back from the school gate to ensure the safety of all our children as they enter and leave the playground.
We are piloting slight adjustments to the school day from Monday 29 August to accommodate the increasing numbers of pupils within the playground. We will pilot this approach until the October holidays.
