On the 21st and 22nd of June, St John’s RC Academy celebrated our S1-2 and S3-6 award ceremonies, hosted by Depute Headteacher, Mr Hugh McAninch. This year, we were honoured to have distinguished guest Mr John Swinney MSP. John Swinney is our local MSP, Depute First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills. He spoke of his learning journey and the importance of education on individuals, on families and on our country. Mr Swinney also spoke highly of our school, praising our ethos and achievements, and celebrating the individual achievements of our young people. We were also blessed with the return of Mrs Audrey May who came to receive a deserved Papal award for her contribution to Catholic Education. The award, Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, is a high honour given by the Vatican at the petition of Bishop Stephen Robson. Mrs May, dressed as always for the occasion, said that she felt very unworthy to receive this, but accepted it as a gift and a grace.
