The new session is now well underway and I am delighted to say that our children and young people throughout our nursery, primary and secondary are settling in very well, and settling down to the busy task of learning.
The summer term is here! Health Week is currently underway in our nursery and primary, with the secondary Health Week to come later in May. Our Bike Breakfast this morning was a great success (and thanks to Mr Antoniewicz for the brilliant picture). The exam season is ongoing, and as I write, many of our young people are sitting National 5 Mathematics. I wish all our candidates, across the whole range of courses, every success.Read more
We are now well into 2019 as I write to you, and coming up to our short break. Since the new year our learners have been hard at work across our nursery and school. Our senior pupils have been undertaking assessment opportunities before their formal exams in April/May, and many of our S2 pupils have enjoyed a fabulous week in the Italian Alps learning to ski. A four minute video is available here to view. Secondary pupils also recently enjoyed the delights of Murrayfield for a Six Nations Rugby match. P6 have been participating (in all weathers!) in our outdoor education programme at Battleby, and P7 are busy preparing for the school show (on 27 March – mark it in the calendar!). Our Monday ‘Learning Hub’ in the library is going well, and new Families Connect sessions have begun. Read more
Our Nursery was visited by the Care Inspectorate on 6th December 2018. The Inspection Report has now been published and highlights a number of areas of very good practice.
As usual, we’ve been busy in St John’s RC Academy! There’s been lots going on, and I hope that you are keeping up to date with just some of the things that happen through our very active Twitter accounts (@st_johnsacademy and @stjohnsnursery_). You can also access these through our website (www.st-johnsacademy.org.uk)
As we approach the half-way point of our academic year we are very much focused on our learning across the whole school. Our senior pupils are working hard on their coursework and preparing for examinations. Of course, exam success doesn’t just happen in the senior phase. All our learning leads to this, from nursery to the end of S3, so our efforts and hard work, developing our knowledge and skills, are crucial to success later in life. Scottish Book Week, which we are celebrating this week, is a welcome reminder of the importance that reading for pleasure has in building our understanding of the world, as well as improving our literacy skills. Next week, the secondary will be celebrating Scotland Week and in particular celebrating our Scots language. Absolutely stoatin! Read more
We’re up and running! The start of the year is always an exciting time! Over the past couple of weeks we have been welcoming new pupils across the school, including new nursery, primary and secondary pupils. It’s been a real pleasure to see them all resplendent in their new uniforms. As always, thanks so much for supporting our uniform. And please also remember to put your child’s name on everything! We’d love to reduce our lost property and we will return anything found if we can see a name on belongings.
For new parents of St John’s RC Academy, please don’t forget to have a look at our School Brochure for more information on our school.
