A copy of the letter I sent to secondary parents/carers on 30 August 2018 is also available here.
With every good wish,
Seán P Hagney
Headteacher and Campus Leader
We’re up and running! The start of the year is always an exciting time! Over the past couple of weeks we have been welcoming new pupils across the school, including new nursery, primary and secondary pupils. It’s been a real pleasure to see them all resplendent in their new uniforms. As always, thanks so much for supporting our uniform. And please also remember to put your child’s name on everything! We’d love to reduce our lost property and we will return anything found if we can see a name on belongings.
For new parents of St John’s RC Academy, please don’t forget to have a look at our School Brochure for more information on our school.
Towards the end of June we celebrated our annual awards ceremonies.
In the secondary, we have 2 special ceremonies, for S1-2 and S3-6. The S1-2 ceremony celebrates the excellence and endeavour of our pupils and we are grateful for the large audience of parents and families who come along and celebrate with us. Mr Seán Hagney gave his Headteacher’s Address, and took the opportunity to highlight all the achievements of the pupils over the last year. This included the very positive report from the local authority which had been published on the same day. You can read the ELAV report here. One young person commented, “It was such a good feeling to be involved; it felt great to be applauded by our friends, teachers and families.” Another said, “It inspired me; I will work hard to achieve even more for next year.”
Pupil Leadership Team 2018 – 2019
We are delighted to announce our new Pupil Leadership Team for 2018 – 2019.
We believe that these young people will do a fantastic job and will serve our community well. We are sure you will join us in congratulating these young people for this great achievement.
As I write, we are busy ensuring that all the various transitions within St John’s RC Academy are underway and helping all the children and young people get to know what’s in store from them next session. For nursery children, we have various occasions for parents/carers and the children to visit and meet the class teachers. Today we have ‘bumpy-up’ day in the primary, and the children from P1-6 are spending time with the teacher they will have next session. Our P7s are currently on their 2 day induction in the secondary, where we are welcoming children from our cluster primaries and 12 other primaries from across Perth and Kinross. Our S1-3 have already moved into S2-4, and we welcomed back our new S5 and S6 at the beginning of this week. We’re still working with a number of our school leavers, including our outgoing S6, until the end of term to make sure they have sound plans for their future.
Since the start of the final term of 2017/18 we have been busy right across the whole school. While many of our nursery pupils are getting ready for P1, our P7 pupils are preparing for S1, and we have been saying our farewells to our outgoing S6 and leavers in the Senior Phase.
It’s the final day of a long term! Before we take our well deserved break, I just wanted to draw your attention to our Nursery News and our whole school newsletter which cover the last term in the school.
I would also wish to thank all our parents, pupils and staff who took part in the recent Local Authority visit to the school. The initial feedback has been very positive indeed. The report will be published in due course, and I am sure it will be a report of which we can, as a whole community, be very proud. As always, there will also be lessons to learn and helpful advice on how to improve further but I can assure you that the report will reflect our positive relationships, our Catholic ethos, our improving attainment and achievements, and our commitment to getting it right for every child.
