Nativity and Christmas Show 2018
During Advent, pupils across St John’s Academy prepare for Christmas. In our primary school the highlight is our annual P2 Nativity and Christmas Show. This year the nativity was ‘Shine, Star, Shine!’, the story of the star of Bethlehem who had lost its shine until it saw a very special baby in a manger. In both the afternoon and evening performances, the children narrated the story and sang beautifully. In addition, stage groups took to the stage and gave their audiences a medley of Christmas hits and hymns. The performances were packed out with family and friends and really enjoyed the talent on show!
Before the evening performance, we had our Christmas Fayre. P7 have been busy learning enterprise skills, coming up with ideas and making attractive Christmas products to sell in aid of SCIAF. This year, P7 made a record-breaking sum of over £600. Well done to every one of them. The Nativity and Christmas Shows also support our school fund, with over £2000 raised – so thank you for your generosity.
On 19 December, P1-4 enjoyed a panto in our hall and had a great time. Thanks to M&M productions for a fun show.
Advent in the primary school is also marked by Christmas parties in the last week of term, with a special visit from Santa for our younger year groups. These parties were a great success too!
Finally, the primary choir joined our Carol Service with Readings at St John’s Church. This service is a time for reflection and an opportunity to sing some of our favourite carols. The talent of our pupils in our music department from the secondary supported a lovely service.
Thanks to all the staff who commit so much of their time and energies to making Advent a very special time for our community.
